Presidential Palace Explains Why Prabowo Wants to Attend the DPR Plenary
President Prabowo Subianto will attend the Plenary Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. His presence at the plenary to discuss the macroeconomic framework and the main policies of fiscal policy, or KEM-PPKF, is unusual for the President of the Republic of Indonesia.
Typically, the government’s attendance at plenary meetings on such themes is represented by the finance minister. Minister for State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi explained the reasons Prabowo wishes to attend in person.
According to Prasetyo, Prabowo intends to deliver a message on the occasion of National Awakening Day, which falls on 20 May. “Coincidentally, 20 May is National Awakening Day, so the President wants to utilise the momentum to once again unite our views and strength as one nation,” Prasetyo told reporters on Tuesday, 19 May 2026.
The Gerindra Party politician said the President wants to use the moment to align views on the national economy, “especially in carrying out the task of safeguarding our country’s economy,” he added.
Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, said Prabowo would become the first President to personally deliver the KEM-PPKF in a DPR plenary tomorrow. According to Dasco, in previous years, the government did indeed deliver the KEM-PPKF and the State Budget (RAPBN) with the relevant minister representing the government.
Dasco added that delivering the KEM-PPKF and RAPBN directly by the President “is perfectly permissible; it’s a preface for the preparation of the 2027 APBN,” said Acting Chairman of the Gerindra Party’s Central Leadership Council at the DPR Complex, MPR, and DPD, on Tuesday, 19 May 2026.
Meanwhile, in a note from the General Secretariat’s Division for Proceedings, as seen by Tempo, the DPR is scheduled to hold a fifth-session plenary on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. Document number B/5926/AG.01.01/5/2026 sets out three activities. First, the delivery of the KEM-PPKF and the RAPBN for the 2027 financial year by the Government. Second, the Legislative Body’s report on the Evaluation of the Second Amendments to the Priority Prolegnas Bill for 2026, followed by a Decision.
Third, presenting the opinions of the Factions on the Bill Initiative from Commission III on amendments to Law No. 2 of 2002 on the Indonesian National Police, followed by a decision to enact a DPR-initiated Bill.
Earlier, Deputy Speaker Saan Mustopa did not deny the plan for a plenary attended by President Prabowo Subianto. “That is the plan,” Saan said at the DPR Complex on Tuesday, 19 May 2026.
