Presidential-donated Cattle for Code Riverbank Residents Slaughtered at Giwangan Slaughterhouse

YOGYAKARTA – Yogyakarta Mayor Hasto Wardoyo oversaw the slaughter of sacrificial cattle donated by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the Giwangan Animal Slaughterhouse on Wednesday (27/5/2026). He stated that the presidential-donated cattle were allocated for communities in relatively isolated areas within Yogyakarta City.

The meat, weighing over one tonne, will be distributed to residents of Gemblakan Bawah village and several communities along the Code River banks. ‘We have allocated the presidential-donated cattle to areas in dire need. In Yogyakarta, there are villages that are somewhat isolated, like Gemblakan Bawah, east of Malioboro. Many residents there heavily rely on the distribution of sacrificial meat,’ he said during a visit to RPH Giwangan on Wednesday (27/5/2026).

Hasto estimated the one-tonne cattle would meet the needs of hundreds of beneficiary families. ‘Typically around 200 households, up to 300 if it’s a tonne,’ he added.

During the inspection, Hasto confirmed the slaughter process adhered to procedures, including waste management. He stated he had inspected the blood drainage and storage systems multiple times to prevent environmental contamination.

‘I’ve checked here two or three times. Blood waste must not go anywhere. When it flows out, it must enter the drainage and storage system. The key here is controlling the waste,’ Hasto said.

Hasto also urged residents and mosque officials conducting private animal sacrifices outside designated slaughterhouses to ensure environmental cleanliness and proper waste management. He noted that the number of sacrificial animals during Eid al-Adha far exceeds RPH capacity, making independent slaughter likely.
