Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the government will soon issue a Presidential Decree (Keppres) on the honourable dismissal of Perry Warjiyo as Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) after President Prabowo Subianto accepted his resignation.

Speaking at a press conference in Jakarta on Monday, Prasetyo said Perry submitted his resignation letter to the President on Sunday (26/7).

The President has accepted the resignation and expressed appreciation for Perry’s service in leading the central bank.

“As the next step, administratively we will follow up on the resignation letter today, because in accordance with the mechanism, a Presidential Decree will be issued concerning his honourable dismissal from the post of Governor of Bank Indonesia,” Prasetyo said.

He added that Perry submitted his resignation for personal reasons.

Under the Bank Indonesia Law, the position of BI Governor is temporarily held by Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti until a definitive governor is appointed.

Prasetyo called on the public to remain calm and trust that coordination between the government and Bank Indonesia will continue to maintain national economic stability.

“On behalf of the government, we convey to the whole community: let us continue to carry out our duties in accordance with the authority granted by law. BI has the role of safeguarding monetary policy, while the government through the Ministry of Finance carries out the function of safeguarding fiscal policy, with close coordination maintained between the two,” he said.

Meanwhile, Destry Damayanti said Bank Indonesia will ensure all its duties and authorities continue to run in order to maintain the stability of the rupiah, the payment system, and the financial system to support sustainable economic growth.
