Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Special Adviser to the President for Labour and Workers’ Welfare, Said Iqbal, has stated that he will prepare a policy analysis regarding wage increases, including the development of an appropriate calculation formula.

Responding to journalists following his inauguration at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday, Said Iqbal noted that wage issues are consistently a primary focus of labour demonstrations.

“Hopefully, with my appointment as Special Adviser to the President, we will conduct a policy analysis regarding the magnitude of wage increases and how they impact labour absorption, before such issues escalate,” said Said.

Regarding the criteria for a decent wage, Said emphasised that meeting basic needs for clothing, food, and housing must be a critical consideration in the study, particularly within the calculation formula.

He provided an example regarding housing, stating that the metric for a decent wage should be the ability to purchase a home rather than merely renting.

“The President has stated that housing is one of the priority programmes. Matters such as these are open to being reviewed,” said Said.

“There is much we can discuss. My duty is to provide policy analysis and recommendations,” added Said, who currently serves as the President of the Indonesian Confederation of Trade Unions (KSPI).

Previously, Said Iqbal was inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto as the Special Adviser to the President for Labour and Workers’ Welfare during a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace today.

Alongside Said Iqbal, Nanik S. Deyang was also inaugurated as the Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), with Agustina Arunsari and Retired Major General TNI Trenggono appointed as Deputy Heads of the BGN.
