JAKARTA — President of the Republic Prabowo Subianto, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and the ministers of the Merah Putih Cabinet paid zakat through the National Zakat Amil Agency (BAZNAS) of the Republic of Indonesia during the Palace Zakat programme titled ‘Zakat Strengthening Indonesia’ at the State Palace in Jakarta on Friday, 13 March 2026.

The Palace Zakat payment was also part of the full cabinet session proceedings. Present were the ranks of the Merah Putih Cabinet, including ministers, deputy ministers, agency heads, special presidential advisers, and special presidential assistants.

President Prabowo’s zakat payment was received and blessed directly by BAZNAS RI Chairman Dr. Ir. H. Sodik Mudjahid, M.Sc., in accordance with the obligation of zakat collectors to pray for the zakat payers. From the Palace Zakat Counter service that day, more than Rp 3.8 billion in zakat funds had been collected from 111 payers.

“Today we have set an example by paying zakat, which again demonstrates the very important role of BAZNAS,” Prabowo said when opening the full cabinet session, shortly after paying zakat together with the ministers.

Prabowo added that BAZNAS as well as financial and economic institutions from all religious organisations in Indonesia must be coordinated, consolidated, and have their capacity increased by utilising existing technology so that the nation’s economic potential can be mobilised more efficiently and effectively.

Target to Collect Rp 515 Billion in Zakat During Ramadan

BAZNAS RI Chairman Dr. Ir. H. Sodik Mudjahid, M.Sc. expressed gratitude for the successful holding of the Palace Zakat programme during the holy month of Ramadan, which became a momentum to strengthen the national zakat movement.

“Brothers and sisters, by the grace of God, today, on the 23rd day of Ramadan, we at all levels of BAZNAS symbolically receive zakat payments from the President, the Vice President, and the entire cabinet. This holds tremendous value for us,” he said.

Sodik also said that during Ramadan 2026, BAZNAS RI is targeting zakat collection of Rp 515 billion, as part of BAZNAS RI’s target collection for 2026 of Rp 1.4 trillion. Nationally, the zakat management sector’s target this year reaches Rp 66 trillion.

He added that during Ramadan 2026, national zakat collection is projected to reach Rp 6 trillion through approximately 760 zakat institutions consisting of BAZNAS and LAZ (Amil Zakat Institutions) throughout Indonesia.

He hoped that the example set by the President and Vice President in paying zakat through BAZNAS could inspire state officials, business people, and the general public to pay zakat, infaq, and sedekah to strengthen the welfare of the people and help alleviate poverty in Indonesia.

On that occasion, Sodik also appealed to the public to pay zakat. “Our principle is that zakat aids the people, and zakat is a helper in the hereafter. We are ready, BAZNAS is ready, to receive and distribute zakat to those entitled to it in accordance with the principles of trust and Islamic law,” he said.
