TEMPO Interaktif, Bogor:President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono called on the Jakarta City administrators to solve its problems before 2020. “A significant improvement must be realized before 2014. It does not mean that governor Fauzi Bowo must wait until 2020. At least, Jakarta citizens could get a better transportation system before then,” he said at the closing speech of the government retreat at Bogor Palace, yesterday.

Jakarta’s traffic jam, according to the President, cannot be solved by the Jakarta Governor alone. He hoped that the provincial government, the central government and all related parties unite to handle this problem.

Responding to the president’s disappointment, Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo admitted that some transportation projects had been delayed, but they were commitments before he was elected governor. For example, the disrupted monorail projects caused by private entities’ inability to meet their commitments. Meanwhile, he claimed that the mass rapid transportation (MRT) construction project is going on as scheduled.

Fauzi even claimed that all projects during his tenure had worked out smoothly. “There is not a project that I pioneered nor an MoU that I signed being halted midway,” he said, at a press conference in Bogor Palace.
