President to visit Jakarta Bay
JAKARTA (JP): All unloading activities in Jakarta Bay will be brought to a halt for about two hours on Aug. 19 when President Soeharto visits the port to inspect warships taking part in the Arung Samudera'95.
Arung Samudera'95 will combine sailboat races with a parade of a fleet of warships. It is being held as part of the highlights to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Indonesia's independence.
Rear Admiral Bambang Poerwadi, an executive of the organizing committee, said on Saturday that a total of 188 warships and yachts from Indonesia, as well as from several foreign countries, would participate in the event, Antara reported.
The participants are scheduled to set off, on Aug. 7, on a 650 nautical mile voyage wading through the Java Sea from Benoa in Bali, heading for Jakarta. (bas)
