President to open congress
JAKARTA: President Soeharto is scheduled to open the 43rd
congress of the Muhammadiyah Moslem organization in Banda Aceh
from July 6 through 10, chairman of the organizing committee
Sutrisno Muhdam said yesterday.
Sutrisno said that the congress would evaluate the
organization's 1990-1995 central board's performance report,
formulate the working plan for the 1995-2000 period, as well as
elect a new central board.
He said several cabinet ministers, including Minister of
Research and Technology B.J. Habibie, Minister of Education and
Culture Wardiman Djojonegoro, Minister of Information Harmoko,
Minister of Home Affairs Yogie S.M., Minister of Food Ibrahim
Hasan, Minister of Religious Affairs Tarmizi Taher, and Chief of
the Armed Forces Gen. Feisal Tanjung, will address the congress.
He said the congress will be attended by 4,000 participants,
50 local and ASEAN countries observers, and some 25,000
spectators.(imn)
