President To Lam Invites Prabowo for Official Visit to Vietnam
President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, To Lam, has invited Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Foreign Minister Sugiono to conduct an official visit. The invitation was conveyed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Le Hoai Trung.
Foreign Minister Trung delivered the invitation through Foreign Minister Sugiono during their meeting at the Pancasila Building, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jakarta, on Tuesday (14/7/2026).
“Once again, we wish to convey the invitation from our General Secretary and President to President Prabowo to visit Vietnam, and we look forward to your visit as Minister of Foreign Affairs to Vietnam,” Trung said after the meeting.
During the 6th Indonesia-Vietnam Joint Commission Meeting, Sugiono and Trung signed a Plan of Action for the Implementation of the Indonesia-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership 2026-2030. The action plan serves as a guideline for implementing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership agreed upon in 2025.
Indonesia and Vietnam agreed to strengthen cooperation in various strategic sectors, including food security and agriculture, high-tech industries, digital economy, energy, health, halal industry, science and technology, and education.
In the political and security fields, the two ministers discussed priority issues, including borders, defence, maritime security, the eradication of illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing, and the handling of transnational crime.
“Today, we signed the Plan of Action for implementation, and this will serve as the main framework guiding our bilateral cooperation over the next five years,” Sugiono stated.
“For political cooperation, we appreciate the progress made in implementing our agreement on the exclusive economic zone. We also discussed and strengthened our commitment to enhancing defence and security cooperation in the maritime sector, handling IUU fishing, and transnational crime, including narcotics and psychotropic-related crimes,” he added.
In the economic field, both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to achieving a bilateral trade target of USD 18 billion by 2028. To support this target, the two countries will strengthen trade and investment cooperation, including through the reactivation of the Joint Committee on Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation.
“In the economic sector, we also reinforced our commitment to achieving the bilateral trade target of 18 billion US dollars by 2028,” Sugiono said.
Indonesia and Vietnam also agreed to strengthen people-to-people ties through enhanced cooperation in culture and education, as well as strengthened collaboration in science and technology.
