President to attend Xmas celebration

JAKARTA: President Megawati Soekarnoputri and Vice President Hamzah Haz are scheduled to attend a national Christmas celebration here on Dec. 27.

The chairman of the event's organizing committee, Pranowo, said after meeting with Megawati on Friday that the celebration would be held at the Jakarta Convention Center.

"The VIPs will celebrate Christmas with about 10,000 Christians," Pranowo said during a press conference.

He said that as part of the celebration the committee would donate humanitarian aid to victims of the Mt. Papandayan explosion. --JP
