President: This year Miangas will have one fishing village
Manado (ANTARA) - President Prabowo stated that by 2026, one fishing village will have been established on the outermost island of Miangas in the Talaud Islands Regency, North Sulawesi.
“Anyway, this year or in the next five months, Miangas will have one fishing village from the total target of establishing 1,386 fishing villages across Indonesia,” the president said to the residents of Miangas on Saturday.
For the fishing village development programme, the president said it would begin in June.
The central government has provided assistance in the form of 15 gross ton (GT) fishing vessels to be used for the catch of fisheries for the residents in Miangas.
“Later in Miangas, a cold storage warehouse and ice production specifically to assist fisheries, as well as a fishermen’s fuel station or the availability of diesel, will be built,” he said.
Previously, President Prabowo arrived at Miangas Airport on Saturday around 10:45 WITA, after previously attending the ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Philippines, from 6-8 May 2026.
