Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto stated that the government will accelerate efforts to repair schools in Indonesia, targeting the completion of repairs for all 288,000 schools scattered across various locations by 2028.

During a visit to the facilities of SMA Negeri 1 Cilacap in Central Java on Wednesday, the President said that for this year, the government aims to complete repairs on 70,000 schools, following the repair of 17,000 schools in 2025.

“Next year, my target is more than 100,000 (schools) if possible. I hope all schools will be completed by 2028,” said President Prabowo.

The Head of State noted that Indonesia has around 288,000 schools spread throughout the country. With a total of 87,000 schools to be completed by the end of the year, approximately 200,000 schools will remain.

“If 100,000 in 2027, 100,000 in 2028, all Indonesian schools will have been repaired,” said the President.

He added that the government will not stop at merely repairing school facilities but will also enhance their quality, including ensuring that all classrooms have digital screens or smart class boards.

Currently, digital screen facilities are available in only one unit per school, with a few having two units.

These repair and facility improvement measures are necessary, given that education is the key to the nation’s revival. The President emphasised that the government will make massive investments in education for the sake of the nation’s future.

“Every Indonesian child must be given the best education,” said Prabowo.

On that occasion, he mentioned having seen the results of the renovation of seven classrooms and eight toilet facilities at SMAN 1 Cilacap. The President also briefly dialogued with students who appreciated the presence of the Free Nutritious Meals Programme (MBG).
