President Summons Himbara Bank Chiefs, Rosan Discusses Economic Direction and Prudent Principles
President Prabowo Subianto summoned the management and commissioners of banks under the State-Owned Banks Association (Himbara) to the Presidential Palace. The meeting was held to discuss the direction of the Indonesian economy and the role of state-owned banks as drivers of economic growth.
Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM and Head of BPI Danantara, Rosan Roeslani, stated that the Himbara leadership attended to receive the President’s views and directives. “Together with the management and commissioners of Himbara, they met with the President to gain insights, direction, and share perspectives on the future of the Indonesian economy,” Rosan said at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Thursday, 18 June.
Rosan expressed hope that the meeting would be productive, noting that input from the President is crucial for Himbara to better fulfil its economic role. He stressed that Himbara must remain cautious in carrying out its intermediary function, employing the term ‘prudent’ to describe the principle of careful risk management in banking. “So that Himbara, as one of the future drivers of the economy, becomes better, more prudent, and also provides a positive impact on the Indonesian economy,” he stated.
The summoning of Himbara officials to the palace drew attention because state-owned banks are often relied upon to finance various government programmes, ranging from micro credit schemes and housing to infrastructure and productive sector financing. During the meeting, BNI Vice President Director Alexandra Askandar was also seen in attendance, though she did not provide any statements to the press. No detailed explanation has been given regarding specific decisions or directives issued by the President during the meeting.
