President Prabowo Subianto received the leadership of BP Batam to discuss the acceleration of Batam’s transformation as a new engine of national economic growth in Jakarta on Tuesday (7/7/2026). The meeting was attended by Head of BP Batam Amsakar Achmad, Deputy Head Li Claudia Chandra, Member/Deputy for Investment Fary Djemy Francis, and Member/Deputy for Infrastructure Mouris Limanto. According to the President, Batam must become a model for the implementation of the national agenda through downstreaming, industrialisation, deregulation, investment acceleration, and logistics efficiency. Batam’s advantages must be built on legal certainty, service speed, and globally competitive infrastructure. One of the President’s main directives was the modernisation of the port and the plan to develop the Batam International Port as a national logistics node integrated with industrial estates, high-tech manufacturing, data centres, and global shipping networks. This move is expected to reduce logistics costs, increase export competitiveness, and strengthen Batam’s position in the global supply chain. In his report, Amsakar Achmad stated that following the strengthening of regulations through Government Regulation Number 25 of 2025 and regional development policies, investment services have become faster and provide better certainty for investors. ‘Through various reforms, BP Batam is targeting Batam to become a more productive, well-organised, and competitive area, while strengthening its role as a centre for investment, industry, and trade that contributes significantly to the national economy,’ said Amsakar. Li Claudia Chandra explained that BP Batam continues to strengthen governance through the digitalisation of the Land Management System (LMS) to improve transparency, accountability, and ease of land services. ‘BP Batam believes that strengthening governance will enhance legal certainty, accelerate investment services, and strengthen investor confidence in Batam as an investment destination,’ she said. Regarding investment achievements, Fary Djemy Francis reported that Batam’s investment realisation in 2025 reached Rp 69.3 trillion. In the first quarter of 2026, investment grew again to Rp 17.48 trillion, an increase of 102.85 per cent compared to the same period the previous year. This investment is increasingly concentrated in value-added sectors such as electronics, machinery, data centres, energy, and industrial estates. ‘The President also directed that Batam become a pilot project for national investment reform through service digitalisation, risk-based supervision, and strengthening regional integrity,’ said Fary. Concluding the meeting, President Prabowo stated that he would coordinate cross-ministerial and institutional steps to accelerate the resolution of strategic issues, ranging from regulatory harmonisation to the construction of the international port.
