President stresses Indonesia's commitment to free and active foreign policy

President Prabowo Subianto has stressed that Indonesia will continue to adhere to the principle of a free and active foreign policy, maintaining good relations with various countries and groups. “I am fortunate. The President of Indonesia inherits a legacy from our nation’s founders. That Indonesia’s foreign policy is a policy of non-alignment. A non-bloc policy. We are friends with all countries. We are friends with all powers, we do not want to get involved in any military pacts,” said President Prabowo Subianto while opening the XVIII National Conference of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) in Bandar Lampung, Lampung Province, followed online from Jakarta on Wednesday. Prabowo stated that upon being elected President, he immediately outlined a foreign policy already championed by the nation’s founders. The affirmation of the implementation of this free and active policy, Prabowo noted, is necessary given the current global situation, amidst conflicts occurring in several regions such as the Middle East. “As soon as I received the mandate as President, I immediately outlined our foreign policy to continue the non-align policy, the non-bloc policy, the free and active policy,” said the President. For this reason, Indonesia has pursued good relations with countries such as the United States, Russia, China and various other parties. “Indonesia is now well-liked. Indonesia is sought after because Indonesia is known not to want to have enemies,” he explained. Safeguarding Indonesia’s interests is also achieved by joining several international cooperation groups such as APEC, OIC, G20 and BRICS. “To defend the people’s interests, we indeed must maintain good relations with all governments. That is why I said Indonesia’s politics is the politics of a good neighbour,” concluded President Prabowo Subianto.
