“For me, growth and investment are not the ultimate goals. Our goal is the welfare of our people,” Prabowo said in his State of the Nation Address at the 2026 Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and Regional Representatives Council (DPD) at the parliament complex here on Friday.

He said high economic growth and investment figures would be meaningless if their benefits could not be enjoyed by the Indonesian people.

President said every rupiah of investment entering Indonesia must create jobs, while every government policy must contribute to improving people’s lives.

“Every rupiah of investment must create jobs and improve the quality of life of our people, especially those at the bottom of the economic ladder. That is the orientation of the government I lead,” Prabowo noted.

Prabowo stressed that a great nation would never leave its people to go hungry, especially since Indonesia is a member of the G20.

He said the government would continue seeking solutions to ensure Indonesians could enjoy more equitable prosperity.

“We must not leave behind those who are vulnerable. We must not allow hunger to exist in Indonesia. The Republic of Indonesia, a G20 member, should not have people going hungry,” he said.

On Friday, the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI), the House of Representatives (DPR RI), and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD RI) held the Annual Session of the MPR RI and the Joint Session of the DPR RI and DPD RI.

The agenda included President Prabowo Subianto’s speech on the performance of state institutions and his State of the Nation Address marking Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day. The government also presented a video showcasing its achievements.

The annual session was a state event held to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence, under the theme “Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia.”
