JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has requested that the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme, particularly aspects related to nutrition services, continue to improve in quality.

The Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Dadan Hindayana, stated that Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi (SPPG) or MBG kitchens deemed not to meet standards should be temporarily closed until comprehensive improvements are carried out.

“The President’s special message during Eid al-Fitr celebrations urged BGN to enhance the quality of SPPG operations and services. Inadequate SPPGs should be temporarily closed, and quality improvements should be promptly implemented,” he said in an official statement on Tuesday (24/3/2026).

As a follow-up to this message, he mentioned that BGN has immediately formed a special unit tasked with monitoring the implementation of certifications across all SPPGs.

In the initial phase, oversight focuses on three main certifications: the Hygiene and Sanitation Compliance Certificate (SLHS), the Halal Certificate, and HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) certification.

These three certifications form the primary foundation for ensuring the safety, cleanliness, and quality of food served to the public.

“Once these three certifications are fulfilled, we will advance to certifications related to the quality of SPPG human resources, including chefs, food handlers, and environmental analysis,” Dadan continued.

While awaiting the establishment of a national SPPG Accreditation Agency or Institution, BGN will form an internal SPPG Classification Team. This team will conduct initial assessments and prepare a more structured and integrated accreditation system for the future.

This step is seen as part of BGN’s strategic efforts to ensure the nutrition fulfilment programme operates optimally, safely, and in accordance with national and international standards.

“Before the SPPG Accreditation Agency/Institution is established, BGN will specifically form an internal SPPG Classification Team while systematically preparing for external accreditation agencies/institutions,” he concluded.
