President Prabowo Subianto stated that he has requested his officials to work together with the House of Representatives (DPR RI) to complete the Labour Bill this year. “I have also instructed the Minister of Manpower and the Minister of Law to immediately collaborate with DPR RI to finalise the Labour Bill,” said President Prabowo Subianto during the International Labour Day Commemoration at Monas, Jakarta, on Friday. “If possible, it must be completed this year as well,” the President added. In addition, the President outlined several steps that the government has taken and will take to ensure worker welfare, starting with the construction of housing for the public that will not only provide homes for workers but also create job opportunities. The President also said that he has signed Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 27 of 2026 to reduce the income deductions taken by ride-hailing app companies from online motorcycle taxi drivers to eight percent. That regulation not only increases the income share for online drivers but also requires ride-hailing companies to provide social security protection for their partners. He stated that strengthening and improving labour regulations is necessary to provide job certainty for the Indonesian people, prioritising worker rights protection as well as business ease. Several highlighted issues include the practice of outsourcing in key sectors, as well as the status and social security for platform workers, including online drivers, as part of efforts to respond to changes in the digital work world.
