President Prabowo's Visit to Japan Opens Investment Opportunities
Tokyo – President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, began his state agenda in Tokyo, Japan, with a strategic mission to strengthen national economic resilience while responding to increasingly complex global geopolitical dynamics.
The Head of State’s arrival at Haneda Airport on Sunday evening marks a new chapter in the strategic partnership between Indonesia and Japan, which not only focuses on increasing investment volumes but also on strengthening technology collaboration and supply chain stability amid global uncertainties.
Amid escalating geopolitical tensions in various regions and global economic fluctuations, Indonesia is seizing this momentum to expand the diversification of investment partners. Japan is regarded as a key partner with a strong track record in long-term investments, technology transfers, and the development of high-value-added industries.
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi emphasised that the visit is a vital momentum for strengthening bilateral relations.
“These meetings will certainly strengthen the friendly cooperation between the two countries, and indeed, the President will specifically discuss many strategic matters that have long been the strength of our cooperation with the Japanese Government,” said Prasetyo.
“For example, in terms of trade, then technology, education, and including in the scope of forestry and environmental cooperation,” stated Prasetyo Hadi when providing information regarding the agenda.
In addition to discussing conventional manufacturing sectors, the Indonesian government is also targeting acceleration in the digital sector.
Meanwhile, Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, who is accompanying the President, stated that technology collaboration is a top priority in dialogues with the Japanese government.
“The President’s visit will focus on discussing strategic matters between the two countries, including cooperation in technology and digital fields,” revealed Meutya.
Meutya added great hopes that the meeting will yield concrete results for the business climate in the homeland.
“We hope the President’s visit can increase Japanese investment in Indonesia,” added Meutya.
The official visit is expected to convert the diplomatic relations that have been established for 68 years into concrete investment flows that support Indonesia’s economic sovereignty in the future.
This visit also reaffirms Indonesia’s position as a strategic partner in the Indo-Pacific region that is adaptive to global geopolitical changes. The synergy between the two countries is hoped to create a more resilient economic ecosystem, while opening up great opportunities for accelerating Indonesia’s economic transformation towards becoming a developed nation.
Further regarding Japan, previously, several cooperations were agreed upon in the series of the Indo Pacific Energy Security Ministerial and Business Forum (IPEM) in Tokyo. This shows that the government never stops and continues to work hard to strengthen national energy resilience.
One of them is the Indonesia-Japan cooperation to strengthen the energy supply chain and support the development of future energy technologies in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) of the Republic of Indonesia held a bilateral meeting with Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI), Ryosei Akazawa. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Indo Pacific Energy Security Ministerial and Business Forum (IPEM) in Tokyo, Japan.
One of the main outcomes of the meeting was the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) in two strategic fields, namely critical minerals and nuclear energy. This cooperation is expected to strengthen a more integrated, resilient, and sustainable energy system.
“I very much welcome the memorandum we signed today, especially in the field of critical minerals; we are very open, we are happy to ask the Japanese government and Japanese business friends to jointly manage our critical minerals in Indonesia,” stated Bahlil.
As for the critical minerals sector, this cooperation is directed at strengthening the global supply chain to make it safer and more reliable. The collaboration is also expected to support the development of clean energy technologies through the utilisation of Indonesia’s strategic mineral resources.
