President Prabowo's Surprised Expression After Receiving Pen from Belarusian President Lukashenko

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto appeared surprised when receiving a pen from Belarusian President Alexandr Lukashenko at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday (2/7). The unique moment occurred shortly after the state guest book signing ceremony in the Credential Room. Based on footage from the Presidential Secretariat, Lukashenko gave the black and gold pen he had just used to write to Prabowo. Although he initially looked startled, President Prabowo immediately accepted the gift with a smile and placed it in his jacket pocket. The two then shook hands and held a photo session as a symbol of friendship between the two countries. Prior to the moment, the two leaders introduced their respective delegations. President Prabowo was accompanied by several cabinet ministers, including Foreign Minister Sugiono, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. Meanwhile, Lukashenko brought a delegation that included his two sons, Dmitry and Nikolai Lukashenko, as well as a number of ministers and senior banking officials from Belarus. Following the welcoming ceremony, the two heads of state held a one-on-one meeting in the President’s office. The state visit carried a strategic agenda, namely the launch of the ‘Road Map for Bilateral Cooperation 2026–2030’. This road map will serve as a framework for strengthening cooperation in the economic, agricultural, food security, cultural, and science and technology sectors. Belarus is an important partner for Indonesia in the Eurasian region. This cooperation is further reinforced after Indonesia signed a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union in December 2025.
