President Prabowo's Determination and IMIP's Role in Supporting the National EV Ecosystem

Much like constructing a house, IMIP’s steps in supporting Indonesia’s electric vehicle ecosystem are becoming complete. The foundation has been laid, the structure is standing, and the furnishings are beginning to arrive to welcome the inhabitants.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subiently appeared focused while listening to presentations from electric vehicle (EV) industry players during the launch of national electric motorcycles in Bekasi Regency, West Java, on 13 August 2026.

While the specific details shared with the President or his direct response to the presentations remain unheard, it is evident that the Head of State appears proud and pleased with the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem. This was reflected in the President’s smile during the event and his enthusiasm while conversing with EV industry stakeholders.

“We are proud today, and we will see even faster development in the future,” the President stated during his remarks after listening to the industry presentations.

The President’s pride in the development of the EV ecosystem does not stop there. He also expressed his satisfaction that an ecosystem to support national electric car production is currently being established.

“If I am not mistaken, not far from here—on the way to Subang at kilometre 84—there is a large complex being built. We hope that Indonesian electric cars will be in mass production by 2028 at the latest,” the President continued.

This determination is driven by the President’s desire for the vehicles traversing the nation to increasingly use electricity as their primary energy source. The statement is also underpinned by a strong desire to reduce fossil fuel consumption. Furthermore, the use of electric vehicles can save public expenditure; for instance, savings of 50–70 per cent can be achieved when using an electric motorcycle compared to a petrol-powered one.

“With electric motorcycles, electric cars, electric buses, electric tractors, and as many of our tools as possible using electricity as the primary energy, we will be more secure. We will be more prosperous,” said the President.

The President’s determination has also received support from industry players located far beyond Bekasi Regency, over 2,400 kilometres from the national electric motorcycle launch site. These industry players belong to PT Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) in Morowali Regency, Central Sulawesi. IMIP is an industrial estate that hosts numerous tenants and companies involved in nickel processing.
