President Prabowo Welcomes President Steinmeier at the Palace
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto received the working visit of President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday. President Steinmeier’s motorcade entered the Merdeka Palace grounds at around 11.30 a.m. Western Indonesian Time, escorted by 17 motorcyclists and 80 mounted troops. President Prabowo welcomed President Steinmeier directly as he alighted from his vehicle. The two leaders shook hands and exchanged greetings. Afterwards, President Prabowo conducted a troop inspection alongside President Steinmeier. President Prabowo then introduced several members of the Red and White Cabinet, namely Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Rosan Roeslani, and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia. Also present were Health Minister Budi Sadikin Gunadi, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, Foreign Minister Sugiono, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. The two leaders subsequently held a tête-à-tête meeting in President Prabowo’s office. During the visit, the two heads of state will emphasise the shared goal of further expanding cooperation in the fields of business, energy, climate, skilled labour recruitment, and culture. In addition, Indonesia and Germany will underline their common stance on democracy, a rules-based order, and strong multilateral engagement in the Indo-Pacific. President Steinmeier is scheduled to participate in a discussion with several experts from local think tanks on middle powers and Germany’s role in a dynamic global order.
