President Prabowo Vows to Plug Rp1,000 Trillion Leak in State Finances

President Prabowo Subianto has stated that the government is intensifying efforts to stop the leakage of national wealth to ensure that the budget can be used, among other things, to guarantee infrastructure development for the public. During the 28th anniversary celebration of the National Awakening Party (PKB) at the Jakarta Convention Center on Thursday, President Prabowo Subianto referred to analyses by several experts who highlighted the inefficiency of the Indonesian economy. “What does inefficient mean? It means a lot of wealth is leaking. Those who gave that score calculated that our economic figure, our ICOR, is 6.5,” said President Prabowo. Indonesia had an ICOR score of 6.24 in 2025 and 6.50 in 2024. The President explained that with this score, to achieve 1 dollar of growth, an expenditure of approximately 6.24 dollars is required. This figure shows a difference of about 2 dollars compared to several of Indonesia’s neighbouring countries. “Two out of six is one-third. This means 30 per cent of our wealth is leaking. The state budget is 270 billion dollars, roughly Rp3,700 trillion. So, if 30 per cent leaks, that means more than Rp1,000 trillion is leaking. I am stopping this now. I want to close this leak,” said Prabowo. He highlighted the practice of price mark-ups carried out by certain parties, including government agencies. By stopping such practices in the first few months of his administration, Prabowo said he has managed to save around Rp300 trillion. On the occasion, he also expressed appreciation for the support from PKB regarding the government’s policy direction. The President also received the results of the PKB ulama ijtima, which expressed support for government policies to strengthen national sovereignty, build economic independence, accelerate industrialisation and downstreaming, achieve food and energy security, improve quality, and return the direction of national development to the mandate of Pancasila and Article 33 of the Constitution. In addition, the ijtima also supported ensuring that a strong state remains within the corridors of the constitution, justice, and good governance, as well as affirming the commitment of ulama to improve and strengthen Nahdlatul Ulama, the people, and the nation.
