President Prabowo Vows to Plug Rp1,000 Trillion Leak in State Finances

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has said the government continues to work to reduce the leakage of national wealth to ensure the budget can be used, among other things, to guarantee infrastructure development that serves the public.

Speaking at the 28th anniversary celebration of the National Awakening Party (PKB) at the Jakarta Convention Center on Thursday, President Prabowo Subianto referred to analyses by a number of experts highlighting the inefficiency of Indonesia’s economy.

“What does inefficient mean? It means a great deal of wealth is leaking. Those are the ones giving that rating. They calculate our figure, our economy, our ICOR at 6.5,” said President Prabowo.

Indonesia recorded an ICOR score of 6.24 in 2025 and 6.50 in 2024.

The President explained that with such a score, generating one dollar of growth requires spending of around 6.24 dollars. That figure itself shows a gap of around two dollars compared with several of Indonesia’s neighbouring countries.

“Two out of six, one third. This means 30 per cent of our wealth is leaking. The state budget is 270 billion dollars, roughly Rp3,700 trillion. So if 30 per cent leaks, that means more than Rp1,000 trillion is lost. I am working to stop this. I want to close it off,” said Prabowo.

He highlighted price inflation practices carried out by a number of parties, including government institutions. By ending such practices in the first few months of his administration, Prabowo said he had managed to save around Rp300 trillion.

On that occasion, he also expressed appreciation for PKB’s support for the government’s policy direction.

The President also received the outcome of PKB’s ulama assembly (ijtima ulama), which declared support for government policies to strengthen national sovereignty, build economic self-reliance, accelerate industrialisation and downstream processing, achieve food and energy security, improve quality, and return the direction of national development to the mandate of Pancasila and Article 33 of the Constitution.

In addition, the assembly also backed ensuring that a strong state continues to operate within the corridor of the constitution, justice and good governance, as well as reaffirming the ulama’s commitment to reform and reorganise NU and to strengthen the community, the nation and the state.
