President Prabowo vows action against corporations causing forest and land fires

President Prabowo Subianto has stressed that action will definitely be taken against corporations or companies proven to have carried out forest or land burning.

“Yes, we must take action. If it is truly proven, then we will act. We will act in accordance with the law,” he said firmly in Palangka Raya on Saturday evening, after chairing a meeting on forest and land fire (karhutla) handling in Central Kalimantan Province.

Furthermore, the President expressed his optimism regarding the performance of all ranks in the field, from central to regional levels, who are collaborating with each other and continuously carrying out forest and land fire management.

Meanwhile, State Secretary Minister (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi said that four corporations in West Kalimantan are currently under investigation in connection with alleged violations that caused forest and land fires.

“As was reported earlier, there are four corporations currently under investigation,” Prasetyo told reporters.

He said the government will await the results of the investigation to determine legal steps against corporations suspected of involvement in forest and land fires.

Sanctions against corporations can be imposed if violations are found. In fact, the government has opened the possibility of revoking the permits of companies proven to have violated regulations.
