President Prabowo Urges Students to Focus on Studies: Grades Must Be Good, No Dating Yet
Jakarta, Kompas.com — President Prabowo Subianto has urged schoolchildren to focus on their studies. He called on students to avoid dating and instead concentrate on personal development.
Prabowo delivered this message whilst speaking with a student from Nias, North Sumatra, named Yamisa Zebu, during a virtual event marking the inauguration of 218 bailey bridges, armco bridges, and pioneer bridges across Indonesia on Monday (9 March 2026).
Initially, Yamisa expressed her gratitude to the government for constructing bridges in her region. She was pleased because she no longer needed to remove her shoes to cross the river when going to school.
Prabowo then asked about Yamisa’s identity, including her age and schooling level. He also enquired about her plans for further studies after completing secondary school.
“Where do you want to continue your studies? Where are you interested in going?” Prabowo asked.
“I want to continue my studies at a higher education institution, but my parents cannot afford it, Sir,” Yamisa replied.
Upon hearing this response, Prabowo asked further questions.
“Medicine, Sir. My three friends also want to continue their studies, Sir,” she said.
“Alright, we’ll test you then,” Prabowo replied.
Prabowo subsequently conveyed several messages. He urged Yamisa to study diligently in order to pass the higher education entrance examination.
“God willing, all of you will, but you must study properly, your grades must be good, don’t date yet. Yes, so you want to study then. The regional military commander can note this down — because you have courage and leadership, report directly to me via TikTok. Your friends’ names will also be noted, study properly,” Prabowo stated.
