Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of State Secretariat (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi, who also serves as spokesperson for the President of the Republic of Indonesia, said President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to simultaneously inaugurate five dams across five Indonesian regions from the ceremony venue at Meninting Dam in West Nusa Tenggara on Friday.

The five dams, all national strategic projects (PSN), are Meninting Dam as the ceremony venue, Keureuto Dam and Rukoh Dam in Aceh, Jlantah Dam in Central Java, and Sidan Dam in Bali.

“Meninting Dam was built to address water inequality in Lombok, strengthen water and food security, and anticipate the impacts of climate change such as El Niño and the IOD (Indian Ocean Dipole), which have the potential to trigger prolonged droughts,” Mensesneg Prasetyo Hadi told journalists in Jakarta on Friday.

Prasetyo continued that Meninting Dam, with an inundation area of approximately 46 hectares, is intended to raise the cropping index in the NTB region from 280 per cent to 300 per cent, including additional production of up to 420,000 tonnes of unhusked rice per planting season.

“The economic value is projected to reach around Rp4.6 trillion,” said Prasetyo Hadi.

On the same occasion, Pras — as Prasetyo is familiarly known — emphasised that water resource infrastructure development will continue in a measured and integrated manner to strengthen food, energy, and environmental security, as well as hydrometeorological disaster mitigation.

“Under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto, the acceleration of strategic infrastructure development will remain a priority as the foundation towards an advanced, independent, and sovereign Indonesia. Through hard work, results-oriented leadership, and a commitment to delivering equitable development across the entire archipelago, the government is determined to ensure that every project brings real benefits to the people, improves public welfare, strengthens national resilience, creates jobs, and drives sustainable economic growth,” said the Mensesneg.

From the operations base of Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta on Friday at 10.45 WIB, President Prabowo departed for Zainuddin Abdul Majid International Airport (BIZAM) in Central Lombok Regency, NTB. The Presidential Aircraft of the Republic of Indonesia with registration number A-001 carrying the President took off from Halim Perdanakusuma at 10.45 WIB.

During the flight to NTB, President Prabowo was accompanied by Mensesneg Prasetyo Hadi, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan.
