President Prabowo: The People Do Not Need Convoluted Bureaucracy
President Prabowo Subianto has affirmed that the entire state apparatus must serve the public to the best of its ability. Indeed, Indonesia’s number one stated that the people do not need byzantine bureaucracy or leaders who fail to work properly.
The President delivered these remarks whilst inaugurating IPDN cadets at the IPDN campus in Jatinangor, Sumedang, on Wednesday (29 July). In his address, Prabowo said the graduating cadets being inaugurated had chosen a life path of service to the people, the nation, and the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).
The President understood that the path they had chosen was neither easy nor light. Nevertheless, Prabowo affirmed that from the outset, civil servants are required to work to help the people facing hardship.
“Our people do not need convoluted bureaucracy. Our people do not need leaders who do not work to the best of their ability,” said Prabowo.
He went on to explain that the honour of the state apparatus is measured not by one’s position, but by how much benefit the people feel. As servants, protectors, and guardians of society, he said, officials are expected to work honestly, with discipline, free of corruption, and always present when the people need them.
“As well as placing the interests of the people above personal or group interests,” he said, whilst advising that wherever they serve, the graduating cadets must remember that they are the face and symbol of the state. For that reason, before the cadets, Prabowo asked that these officials work as well as possible so that the people grow ever more trusting and loving towards the state.
“Because disappointing the people will destroy trust in the state itself,” he said. The President further elaborated that Indonesia is a great nation with the fourth-largest population in the world and a land area equivalent to 27 European countries.
This abundant natural wealth has, for hundreds of years, made Indonesia a target of foreign nations that applied divide-and-rule politics along lines of ethnicity, religion, race, and group in order to seize power. To become a strong, successful, advanced, and independent nation that stands on its own feet without being dictated to by other nations, he said, Indonesia requires a domestic government that is excellent, disciplined, free of corruption, patriotic, and prioritises the people’s interests.
“With a clean and principled government, history teaches that the state will succeed, the nation will prosper, and the people will be prosperous,” he said. (H-3)
