President Prabowo targets energy self-sufficiency within three years
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto is targeting Indonesia to achieve energy self-sufficiency within the next three years. In his speech at the 18th National Conference of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) in 2026, broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta on Wednesday, President Prabowo said the government is currently working hard to realise energy independence as one of the main foundations of national development. “We are heading towards energy self-sufficiency. We are working hard, and our calculation is another three years,” said President Prabowo. According to President Prabowo, the achievement of energy self-sufficiency will go hand in hand with the industrialisation programme which is the government’s main agenda. He asserted that Indonesia must no longer simply export raw materials, but instead process all strategic commodities domestically to provide greater added value for the national economy. “We will carry out industrialisation through downstreaming. All our commodities will be processed and will become industries in Indonesia,” he said. Prabowo considers downstreaming a strategic step to create jobs, increase the competitiveness of national industry, and strengthen Indonesia’s economic independence amidst global uncertainty. “Many countries are now in a state of panic; they are struggling to find food. The UN has already warned that this year there will be mass starvation. We, thank God, are strong. We cannot turn a blind eye to this,” stressed President Prabowo.
