President Prabowo Targets Beef Self-Sufficiency Within 5-6 Years

President Prabowo Subianto has set a target for Indonesia to achieve self-sufficiency in beef within the next five to six years. He expressed optimism that this goal can be met.

Speaking during his address at the MPR Annual Session and Joint Session of the DPR and DPD at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday, Prabowo stated, “We are not yet self-sufficient in beef. We will work on this, and God willing, we can achieve it within the next 5 to 6 years.”

Beyond beef, which is on the path towards self-sufficiency, Prabowo detailed that self-sufficiency has already been achieved for eight other commodities. These include chicken meat and eggs.

“This year we have achieved self-sufficiency in 8 food commodities: rice, corn, consumer sugar, chicken meat, chicken eggs, shallots, large chillies, and cayenne pepper,” Prabowo elaborated.

He stated that these achievements were the result of cooperation between various parties. According to him, the accomplishments have received global recognition.

“The Minister of Agriculture, agricultural extension workers, supported by many other ministries, regional governments, the TNI and Polri, all in the spirit of mutual cooperation, we have achieved a feat that is recognised by the world,” he said.
