President Prabowo Targets 1 Million Houses for Workers
President Prabowo Subianto is targeting one million houses for workers and labourers in Indonesia. These houses will be built near industrial areas to ease workers’ rental and transportation costs. “We have already built quite a few this year, reaching 350,000 houses, but our target is at least one million houses. We will start building one million houses this year as well, and these houses, as per your suggestion, will be made in clusters close to industrial zones and workplaces,” Prabowo explained to the May Day rally crowd at Monas on Friday (1/5/2026), quoted from Kontan. For instance, the construction will include facilities such as daycares, hospitals, schools, public transport, and high-rise apartments. The goal is to stimulate economic activity. “And I order that there must be schools, sports facilities, daycares, hospitals, and most importantly, transport,” Prabowo stated. Regarding transportation, workers will receive special cards for discounted fares. “Brothers and sisters, we will try to ensure that workers with cards can use transport at very low prices,” Prabowo explained. “How much? 10 percent? You ask for 10 percent? Yes? I say here, I do not agree with 10 percent. It must be below 10 percent,” Prabowo emphasised firmly. Prabowo will strive for a 92 percent revenue share for ride-hailing drivers. “Also, regarding income distribution, previously 80 percent for drivers, now at least 92 percent for drivers,” he said.
