President Prabowo Subianto's Eid al-Adha sacrificial cow in Banjarmasin weighs 973kg
This aid is not merely a symbol of the sacrificial ritual but also a demonstration of the state’s presence in meeting community needs.
Banjarmasin (ANTARA) – The sacrificial cow donated by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to Banjarmasin residents in South Kalimantan for Eid al-Adha 1447 AH (2026 CE) weighs 973kg.
The President’s Simmental breed cow was officially handed over by Banjarmasin Mayor Muhammad Yamin to the public at Grand Mosque Miftahul Ihsan on Tuesday.
Mayor Yamin expressed gratitude for the President’s attention towards the Thousand Rivers City’s residents during this Eid al-Adha.
He stated that the aid is not merely a symbolic gesture of the sacrificial ritual but a demonstration of the state’s presence in addressing community needs.
At the event, Yamin urged that this year’s meat distribution be conducted more orderly and environmentally friendly by reducing single-use plastic bags.
Residents were also encouraged to bring their own containers or use alternative packaging such as purun grass baskets, a measure seen as a solution to reduce the annual post-Eid al-Adha waste in urban areas.
‘We want the meat distribution to proceed smoothly without leaving environmental issues. Environmental-friendly container usage must become habitual,’ he said.
The mosque area near Antasari Market in Banjarmasin Central is seen as having significant potential to become a religious activity hub and a showcase for the city.
Painting and cleaning works are currently underway ahead of the Eid al-Adha prayers.
‘The government views this as an opportunity to strengthen the city’s religious and humanitarian image,’ Yamin added.
