President Prabowo Subianto attends Eid al-Adha prayer in Paris
President Prabowo Subianto attended the Eid al-Adha prayer for 1447 Hijriah in Paris, France, on Wednesday, 27 May 2026. The prayer was held at Wisma Indonesia, the Indonesian Embassy in the capital city.
According to the Presidential Secretariat, the Gerindra Party chairman arrived at the location at 8:40 local time. “President Prabowo arrived at Wisma Indonesia and immediately proceeded to the prayer line to join the congregation in reciting the takbir,” the statement read.
Prabowo prayed in the first row. The former Defence Minister was flanked by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya and Indonesian Ambassador to France Mohamad Oemar. Investment Minister and BPI Danantara CEO Rosan Perkasa Roelani also prayed in the same row, as did Prabowo’s son, Didit Hediprasetyo.
The Eid prayer at Wisma Indonesia was led by Imam and Khatib Fakhruddin Arrozi, a graduate of the International Islamic University Islamabad, Pakistan, and currently a lecturer at Muhammadiyah Lamongan University.
During his sermon, Fakhruddin emphasised that Eid al-Adha is a holiday with both divine and humanitarian dimensions. He reminded attendees that the sacrifice ritual is not only a symbol of obedience to Allah but also an invitation to share, preserve Islamic identity, strengthen family bonds, and reinforce unity, particularly for Muslim expatriates living abroad.
“We are not commanded to sacrifice our children like Prophet Ibrahim AS, but rather to sacrifice our egos in obedience to Allah’s commands,” Fakhruddin said.
After the prayer, Prabowo shook hands with Indonesian diaspora attending the congregation. The event concluded with a social gathering and shared meal.
The Cabinet Secretariat stated that the Head of State’s visit to France had been planned for a long time. “The invitation was scheduled last year and underwent several reschedulings,” Teddy said in a written statement on Tuesday.
Prabowo arrived in Paris on Tuesday, 26 May 2026, landing at Orly Airport in the French Republic around 9:50 local time.
