President Prabowo Subianto attended the Japan-Indonesia Business Forum as part of his state visit to Japan on Monday (30/3/2026). The strategic meeting was also attended by members of the Merah Putih Cabinet and several prominent Indonesian business figures.
The business forum resulted in ten business cooperation agreements between Indonesian and Japanese companies, with a fantastic investment value. The total value of the cooperation reached US$22.6 billion, equivalent to Rp381.9 trillion, assuming an exchange rate of Rp16,900 per US dollar.
“Ten business-to-business cooperation agreements were successfully agreed upon in the forum,” stated the official caption via the Instagram account @presidenrepublikindonesia. This step is seen as a strategic effort to strengthen economic relations between the two countries, which have long complemented each other.
Broader collaboration opportunities are now wide open in various national priority sectors. Additionally, the focus of cooperation will be directed towards developing the industrial sector, energy resilience, and accelerating technological transformation in the country.
President Prabowo also took the time to pay a courtesy visit to Emperor Naruhito of Japan at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. The one-on-one meeting took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere for approximately 45 minutes.
The two heads of state then continued the agenda with a lunch meeting. Moreover, the total duration of President Prabowo’s visit to the Emperor’s official residence lasted two hours.
Various strategic issues of mutual interest to both countries were discussed in depth during the meeting. In addition, investment and the development of new renewable energy became the main topics in the discussion between the two leaders.
Environmental conservation also became an important point discussed to address global climate change challenges. Furthermore, strengthening diplomatic relations is hoped to promote sustainable stability in the Asia-Pacific region.
This visit reaffirms Indonesia’s position as a primary strategic partner for Japan in both economic and political sectors. Moreover, the synergy built is expected to provide positive impacts on national economic growth in the long term.
The government is committed to overseeing the implementation of every point of the business agreements so that they can be quickly realised on the ground. Thus, the flow of investment from the Land of the Cherry Blossom is expected to create broader new job opportunities for Indonesian society.
