President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to personally lead the state military funeral ceremony for General (retired) Try Sutrisno, Indonesia’s sixth Vice President, at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery (TMP) in South Jakarta on Monday (2 March). This was confirmed by State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi following the funeral prayers held at Sunda Kelapa Mosque in Jakarta, confirming that the deceased will receive a state funeral.

“God willing (the President will lead the funeral ceremony), please pray for him,” said Prasetyo to the media.

State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi expressed the government’s profound condolences at the passing of one of the nation’s finest sons. Try Sutrisno passed away at the age of 90 whilst undergoing treatment at the Indonesian Army Central Hospital (RSPAD) Gatot Soebroto in Jakarta on Monday morning.

Prasetyo emphasised that the government had ensured the best medical care for the deceased during his hospitalisation. He also called upon all Indonesian society to pray for the deceased, particularly given that his passing coincided with the holy month of Ramadan.

“He was a figure who dedicated himself and devoted his entire life to the nation, state, and Indonesian people,” Prasetyo continued.

Throughout his life, Try Sutrisno was known as a figure consistent in upholding the values of national unity. Prasetyo recalled the deceased’s messages which always reminded the younger generation to preserve the purity of Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution.

“He has provided an example to the entire Indonesian nation on how to love our country. Let us younger generations follow what he exemplified in providing the best service,” he emphasised.

Until his final years, Try Sutrisno continued to demonstrate high dedication by actively attending various important state agendas, from the Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly to the Commemoration of the Proclamation at Merdeka Palace every 17 August. His presence was always a source of inspiration to state officials and Indonesian military personnel.
