President Prabowo Scheduled to Close 35th NU Congress in Jombang

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to attend and officially close the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress at the Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Tambakberas, Jombang Regency, East Java, on Monday (31/8).

The Secretary General of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU), Saifullah Yusuf, popularly known as Gus Ipul, confirmed that the closing ceremony is planned to begin at 09:00 WIB. Participants, students, and congregants are expected to arrive at the location from 0_7:00 WIB to ensure the smooth running of the event.

“God willing, if there are no obstacles, the Congress will be closed directly by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, at 09:00 am,” said Gus Ipul in Jombang on Sunday (30/8) evening.

President Prabowo’s presence at the closing is considered a historic milestone for the organisation. The President had previously attended in person to open the 35th NU Congress series on Thursday (27/8), accompanied by the Vice President and several state officials.

The Local Congress Committee, K.H. Abdurrozaq Sholeh, also known as Gus Rozaq, added that Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya has provided information regarding the President’s efforts to arrive before 10:00 WIB. The closing ceremony will be centred at the K.H. Hasbullah Said Multipurpose Building.

Regarding the dynamics during the congress, Gus Ipul ensured that any differences of opinion that emerged have been resolved peacefully. Deliberations were conducted alongside scholars, clerics, the Rais Aam, and the general chairpersons.

“If there were slight protests earlier, they have been resolved through deliberation involving the scholars, the clerics, and the various ‘gus’ (sons of clerics) who deliberated well,” he asserted.

The 35th NU Congress in Jombang has been underway since 27 August 2026. The committee noted that President Prabowo was very impressed by the orderly reception and the enthusiasm of the tens of thousands of delegates present since the opening day.
