President Prabowo Scheduled to Attend Closing of 35th NU Congress
Jombang (ANTARA) - The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, is scheduled to attend the closing of the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress at the Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School, Tambakberas, Jombang Regency, East Java, on Monday (31/8).
“God willing, if there are no obstacles, the Congress will be closed directly by President Prabowo Subianto at 09:00 AM tomorrow,” said the Secretary General of the Executive Board of Nahdlatul Emire (PBNU), Saifullah Yusuf, also known as Gus Ipul, in Jombang on Sunday night.
He stated that according to the plan, the closing will take place around 09:00 WIB. Consequently, congress participants, students, and congregants intending to attend the closing agenda are expected to arrive early, between 07:00 WIB and 08:00 WIB.
He added that if the President attends the closing of the 35th NU Congress, it would certainly be historic, as he also attended the opening of the congress accompanied by the Vice President and other officials.
Gus Ipul also noted that differences of opinion that had emerged during the implementation of the congress have been resolved through deliberation with scholars and clerics.
“The slight protests that occurred earlier have been resolved through consultation between the scholars, the clerics, the Rais Aam, the General Chairman, and the various ‘gus’ (sons of clerics), who deliberated well,” he said.
The Local Committee of the 35th NU Congress, K.H. Abdurrozaq Sholeh, or Gus Rozaq, stated that President Prabowo has confirmed his efforts to attend the closing agenda.
“Regarding President Prabowo Subianto, God willing, his attendance is confirmed, as Teddy (Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya) provided information via WhatsApp that the President is endeavouring to ensure the closing takes place before 10:00 WIB so that he can attend,” said Gus Rozaq.
He noted that the closing of the 35th NU Congress is scheduled to take place at the K.H. Hasbullah Said Multipurpose Building, Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School, Tambakberas, Jombang.
According to Gus Rozaq, President Prabowo’s presence at the closing is part of the series of congress activities that have been ongoing since Thursday (27/8).
President Prabowo previously opened the 35th NU Congress in Jombang on Thursday (27/8). The President’s presence at the opening received a warm welcome from the congress delegates and the attending public.
“The President himself was very impressed by the welcome from the tens of thousands of delegates during the opening yesterday, which was truly orderly and showed great respect to the President,” he said.
