President Prabowo Sacrifices Six Cows in DIY
President Prabowo Subianto has channelled six sacrificial cows to the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) province for this year’s Eid al-Adha. The sacrificial cows will be distributed to each city and regency in DIY.
Agung Ludiro, Head of Livestock and Animal Health at the DIY Agriculture and Food Security Office (DPKP), stated that the cows from the President, as usual, will be distributed to each regency and city.
“The President’s cows that are monitored entering DIY number six; each regency and city will receive one, and the province will also receive one,” Agung told reporters during an inspection at UD Segar Farm in Pekuncen, Wirobrajan, Yogyakarta City, on Friday (8/5/2026).
“The one for the province this year will be slaughtered in Sleman; last year it was in Bantul, it’s rotated,” Agung continued.
Agung explained that the cows from the President are all sourced from within DIY, except for Yogyakarta City. This is because there were no cows meeting the presidential sacrificial cow criteria in Yogyakarta City.
“All from DIY: two from Bantul, two from Sleman, and one each from Gunungkidul and Kulon Progo. The one from Bantul is for the city, and the one from Sleman is for the province,” Agung said.
“Because the requirement for the President’s cows is that they must be close to one tonne, but in the city, after searching, there was only one, and it had already been sold,” he added.
Meanwhile, Sultan HB X will sacrifice nine cows this year. Agung said the Sultan’s cows will also be distributed to regencies and cities. In addition, they will be handed over to the Keraton Jogja and the Pakualaman Kadipaten.
“The Governor’s cows that are currently monitored number nine, all from Sleman. They are divided among regencies and cities, then two for the Keraton and two for Pakualaman,” he revealed.
“The ones for Pakualaman are likely to be slaughtered in Kulon Progo, and those for the Keraton at the Masjid Gedhe Kauman,” Agung concluded.
