State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi has confirmed that President Prabowo Subianto personally requested former National Nutrition Agency (BGN) chief Nanik S. Deyang to join the agency’s supervisory board. The appointment is intended to leverage her experience to support the BGN’s future performance. “It was a request from the President because her experience is still considered necessary to help the BGN,” Prasetyo said at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Thursday.

Regarding the legal basis for the supervisory board, Prasetyo explained that the government is currently reviewing the need to update regulations. The existing Presidential Regulation Number 83 of 2024 concerning the BGN does not yet explicitly include the nomenclature for a “supervisory board,” referring instead to a “steering committee.” Prasetyo noted that the terminology is not a fundamental issue as long as the function is effective. “The meaning could be the same, whether it is a steering committee or a supervisory board in carrying out its duties,” he added.

Nanik S. Deyang officially resigned from her position as head of the BGN, with her resignation confirmed by Presidential Special Staff for Communication and Policy, Dirgayuza Setiawan, on Wednesday. Nanik stated that her resignation was to focus on heart treatment abroad, while also revealing the President’s plan to appoint her as chair of the supervisory board. The newly inaugurated BGN chief, Sudaryono, has expressed openness to the formation of the board, stating it would improve governance and allow for external reporting of any irregularities within the free nutritious meal programme.
