President Prabowo Subianto has reported that efficiency measures and the restructuring of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) have saved the state over Rp50 trillion. Speaking at the Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and Regional Representatives Council (DPD) in Jakarta on Friday, the President described the effort as possibly the largest corporate restructuring in the world. “By streamlining the number of SOEs, we have saved approximately Rp50 trillion in overheads. This comes solely from directors’ salaries, commissioners’ fees, building rentals, vehicle leases, and official travel,” Prabowo stated. He noted that the government has already closed 290 out of 1,074 state-owned enterprises, retaining only those that are productive. The President confirmed that the target is to have no more than 300 SOEs by the end of 2026. He emphasised that the resulting savings would be redirected to improve public health centres, renovate schools, and provide housing for the people.
