President Prabowo Subianto reminded the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to be guardians of democracy and to guarantee that every citizen can express their opinions peacefully. He made the remarks during the 80th Bhayangkara Day commemoration ceremony at the Brimob Training Centre in Cikeas, Bogor Regency, West Java, on Wednesday. President Prabowo said that criticism and input are vital to democratic life in Indonesia, though they must remain aligned with the nation’s values. “Differences must not become a source of division. We must always prioritise unity and harmony among us. Polri must be a mature guardian of democracy, ensuring every citizen can voice their opinions peacefully,” President Prabowo Subianto stated. Prabowo said that the law in Indonesia must serve as a refuge for the weak and must not be sharp downwards but blunt upwards. “The law must not become a tool for those with money. The law must not become a tool for political revenge,” the President said. “I emphasise once again, the weakest people must receive protection. People seeking truth and justice must be served. Those who are in the right must feel safe,” Prabowo Subianto added.
