President Prabowo Receives Visit from Former Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra

The Indonesian government continues to expand its communication network and strengthen relations with world leaders and figures. This commitment was underscored during a meeting when President Prabowo Subianto received former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who served from 2001 to 2006, along with his family. The meeting took place at the President’s private residence in Kertanegara, Jakarta, on Wednesday evening. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya explained that the meeting occurred after President Prabowo had seen off Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Yogyakarta International Airport. ‘President Prabowo Subianto received former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his family at his private residence in Kertanegara on Wednesday evening, 8 July 2026,’ Teddy stated in a written release on Thursday. The meeting was also attended by Thaksin’s daughter, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who served as Thailand’s Prime Minister from 2024 to 2025. Teddy noted that the atmosphere was full of warmth, reflecting the long-standing friendship between the two figures. ‘The warm and cordial meeting served as a momentum to strengthen their long-standing friendship. In a relaxed atmosphere, the President and Thaksin also exchanged views on various strategic global developments and regional dynamics,’ Teddy revealed. Beyond his status as a former leader, Thaksin’s presence carried additional strategic weight. He currently serves as a member of the Danantara Advisory Board, indicating close involvement in various fields of cooperation with Indonesia. Teddy emphasised that President Prabowo’s proactive approach to building communication with global figures aims to expand international cooperation. This is considered crucial for strengthening Indonesia’s position amidst ever-changing global dynamics.
