Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto received the highest honour from the Government of the Republic of Korea, The Grand Order of Mugunghwa, during a Friendship Event held at the Garden of Sangchungjae, Presidential Palace of the Republic of Korea, Seoul, on Wednesday. According to a statement from the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta on Wednesday, the award was presented directly by President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae Myung. The conferment forms part of the series of events during President Prabowo’s state visit to the Republic of Korea. The Grand Order of Mugunghwa is the Republic of Korea’s highest national award, specifically bestowed upon the President of the Republic of Korea and their spouse, as well as Heads of State or former Heads of State from friendly nations and their spouses. The award is given for extraordinary services in supporting the development and security of the Republic of Korea. The Government of the Republic of Korea presented the award to President Prabowo as a token of appreciation for his contributions and role in strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and the Republic of Korea, including elevating the status of the partnership between the two countries to a Special Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The award received by President Prabowo consists of several honorary attributes, namely a badge in the form of a ribbon, collar (necklace), star (brooch), and lapel badge (pin), all made from precious metals and adorned with gemstones. Since it was first awarded in 1949, The Grand Order of Mugunghwa has been given to more than 100 world figures, both domestic and international. Some prominent figures who have received this award include the first President of the Republic of Korea Syngman Rhee (1949), King Hussein of Jordan (1983), Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom (1986), Emir of Qatar Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani (2007), President of France Emmanuel Macron (2018), and King of the Netherlands Willem-Alexander (2003). This conferment further affirms the close friendship and strategic cooperation between Indonesia and the Republic of Korea, which continues to develop and provide tangible benefits for both countries and the region.
