President Prabowo reads Proclamation Text at 81st Independence Day ceremony
President Prabowo Subianto read the text of the Proclamation of Independence of the Republic of Indonesia while leading the Proclamation Seconds Commemoration Ceremony at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday morning.
“We the Indonesian people hereby declare the independence of Indonesia. Matters concerning the transfer of power and other matters shall be carried out in a careful manner and in the shortest possible time,” read an excerpt from the text of the Proclamation of Independence of the Republic of Indonesia as delivered by President Prabowo, as observed from Jakarta on Monday.
Following that, the ceremony continued with a moment of silence and a prayer session. On that occasion, President Prabowo also invited those present to join in praying for the victims of disasters, including communities affected by earthquakes in Sumatra, East Nusa Tenggara and other regions.
The ceremony then proceeded with a prayer led by Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar.
For the 2026 Proclamation Seconds Commemoration Ceremony of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, the Heritage Flag Hoisting Troop (Paskibraka) serving at Merdeka Palace is part of a team named “Indonesia Berdaulat” (Sovereign Indonesia).
Celina Olivia Apriani Theo, representing West Kalimantan Province, was selected as the bearer of the Red and White flag. Celina, who was chosen as the tray bearer, is currently a student at SMK Negeri 5 Pontianak.
The 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia carries the theme “Indonesia Berdaulat, Adil, dan Makmur” (Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia).
At Merdeka Palace, the Proclamation Seconds Commemoration Ceremony of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia was attended by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as well as former presidents and vice presidents.
During the procession of the 80th Independence Day Anniversary Ceremony, President Prabowo wore a blue beskap jacket, complete with a songket cloth at his waist. Meanwhile, Vice President Gibran wore traditional attire characteristic of the people of East Nusa Tenggara.
