President Prabowo Procures 1,098 Premium Breed Cows from Local Farmers for 2026 Eid al-Adha
JAKARTA – Deputy Minister of the State Secretariat Juri Ardiantoro stated that 1,098 sacrificial cows for President Prabowo Subianto’s 2026 Eid al-Adha were purchased from local farmers across Indonesia. ‘The cattle all come from local farmers,’ Juri said at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, 26 May 2026. Juri noted that Prabowo hopes the 2026 Eid al-Adha will serve as a catalyst for farmers to enhance quality and productivity. ‘Furthermore, the Indonesian president annually purchases sacrificial cows from local farmers,’ he added. Juri also stressed that Prabowo aims for Indonesia’s livestock industry to become self-reliant in meeting domestic food needs. ‘The president also hopes this will be a catalyst for developing Indonesia’s livestock industry independently and meeting domestic meat supply needs,’ he said. The purchase cost is covered by the national budget (APBN), amounting to approximately Rp 100 billion. Prabowo has instructed that the 1,098 sacrificial cows be distributed to those in need. ‘The president has directed that the sacrificial cows be utilised to the greatest extent possible for communities in need across regions,’ he added. Of the total, 598 cows were allocated to local governments, while the remaining 500 were distributed to social, religious institutions and Islamic boarding schools. Juri confirmed all cows are healthy and meet Islamic sacrificial requirements. One of Prabowo’s cows was donated to Jakarta’s Istiqlal Mosque. ‘The president’s cow at Istiqlal is a Simmental breed, weighing 1.3 tonnes,’ Juri said.
