President Prabowo Pays Respects to Late Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu Lying in State at MoD
President Prabowo Subianto paid his final respects to former Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu, whose body was laid in state at the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in Central Jakarta on Monday, 1 June 2026. The head of state arrived at 7:27 AM WIB in a Maung vehicle and proceeded directly to the MoD’s Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (BTI) Hall. After exiting his vehicle, Prabowo shook hands with Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjomsoeddin and Deputy Defence Minister Donny Ermawan Taufanto. Prabowo, Sjafrie, and Donny then walked to the BTI Hall where Ryamizard’s remains were laid in state. The late Ryamizard will be interred at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in Jakarta following the lying-in-state at the MoD. ‘The deceased’s body will be buried with military honours at the National Heroes Cemetery Kalibata as a tribute to a soldier and statesman who dedicated his life to Indonesia,’ Rico told Kompas.com on Sunday, 31 May 2026. Ryamizard Ryacudu, born in Palembang, South Sumatra on 12 April 1950, graduated from the Military Academy (Akmil) in 1974 as an infantry officer. The four-star retired general served as Defence Minister during President Joko Widodo’s first term from 2014 to 2019. Prior to this role, his last position in the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) was Chief of Staff of the Army (KSAD), which he held for three years from 2002 to 2005.
