President Prabowo Pays Respects at the Grave of Former Vice President Try Sutrisno Before Laying Wreath
President Prabowo Subianto served as inspector of ceremonies at the funeral of Indonesia’s sixth Vice President Try Sutrisno at Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery (TMP Kalibata). Prabowo paid respects at the grave before laying a wreath.
According to observations on Monday 2 March 2026 at Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery, the burial was conducted with full military honours. Try Sutrisno’s grave is located in block M, number 131.
Acting as inspector of ceremonies, Prabowo led the funeral proceedings. Prabowo also symbolically cast earth into the burial plot. Subsequently, the family presented flowers into the grave before it was sealed. After the grave was covered, Prabowo approached the tomb to pay respects.
Prabowo then laid a wreath at the tombstone and paid respects once more before returning to his position as inspector of ceremonies.
Try Sutrisno passed away on Monday 2 March in the morning at Gatot Subroto Military Hospital (RSPAD Gatot Subroto). He had been receiving treatment at the hospital for 16 days prior to his death.
Try Sutrisno was later laid in state at a funeral home located at Jalan Purwakarta Number 6, RT 08 RW 05, Menteng, Central Jakarta.
Try Sutrisno served as Indonesia’s sixth Vice President from 1993 to 1998, serving alongside President Suharto. He was born in Surabaya in 1935.
Try was among the Vice Presidents with a military background. He was a graduate of the Army Technical Academy, completing his studies in 1959.
During his military career, Try served as Army Chief of Staff from 1986 to 1988 and as Commander of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Indonesia from 1988 to 1993.
In 1961, Try married Tuti Sutiawati and was blessed with seven children, comprising four sons and three daughters.
