President Prabowo Orders Immediate Execution of Single National Identity Card

President Prabowo Subianto has affirmed his commitment to accelerating bureaucratic reform through regulatory simplification and the digitalisation of government services. This includes fast-tracking the implementation of a Single National Identity Card as part of the transformation of government administration. Prabowo stated that Indonesia is on the right track in its development but must continue to evaluate and improve government effectiveness. He made these remarks during a Plenary Cabinet Session at the State Palace in Central Jakarta on Monday. “We are confident we are heading in the right direction, but we remain vigilant. We correct ourselves; we know our efficiency is still lacking. We have too many regulations, too many rules,” Prabowo said. As a corrective measure, Prabowo stressed the importance of simplifying the bureaucracy through the use of digital technology. He noted that the government is pioneering the digitalisation of governance through GovTech and other digital transformation programmes. “I emphasise here that we must simplify the government. We will start, or have already begun, moving towards government digitalisation with GovTech and other programmes,” he stated. Prabowo expressed hope that the Single National Identity Card could be implemented soon to make public services more integrated, efficient, and accessible to the public. “I hope the single national identity card can be executed and implemented as effectively as possible. We will continue to simplify ministerial regulations and so forth,” he said. Additionally, Prabowo assessed that Indonesia possesses a robust social protection system, a result of continuous development. “One of our achievements is that we now have a social protection system which, in my view, is one of the strongest in the world,” he remarked. On the same occasion, Prabowo also emphasised that various development achievements are the result of a relay of national leadership from previous presidents. He stated that the current government’s task is to continue, build upon, and perfect the existing foundation. “I always acknowledge that this is a long march from Bung Karno, from Soeharto, Megawati, Gus Dur, Jokowi—all the results of our government’s hard work. Our task is to build and improve,” Prabowo concluded.
