President Prabowo offers to mediate amid Middle East tensions

In an official statement here Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed regret over failed negotiations between the United States and Iran, which have triggered military escalation in the region.

Indonesia called on all parties to exercise restraint, prioritize diplomacy, and respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of every nation, urging disputes be resolved through peaceful means.

“The government, through the President, is ready to facilitate dialogue and, if agreed by both parties, travel to Tehran to conduct mediation,” the ministry said.

The statement underscores Indonesia’s commitment to actively maintaining global stability in line with its long-standing free and active foreign policy.

The ministry warned that rising tensions in the Middle East could disrupt both regional stability and global peace and security.

The government also urged Indonesian citizens in affected areas to remain calm, follow local authorities’ instructions, and stay in contact with nearby Indonesian representatives to ensure safety.

Previously, the United States and Iran held three rounds of indirect talks on Tehran’s nuclear program, mediated by Oman, with the first two in Muscat and Geneva earlier this month.

Those initial rounds focused on limiting Iran’s uranium enrichment and stockpiles in exchange for sanctions relief.

The third round occurred on Thursday (Feb. 26) in Geneva amid escalating tensions in the region.
