President Prabowo Subianto symbolically inaugurated a grand sugarcane harvest at the Abdulrachman Saleh Air Force Base in Malang Regency, East Java, on Friday, 17 July 2026. The event was attended by Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, Indonesian Military Commander General Agus Subiyanto, Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak, Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal M. Tonny Harjono, and Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali. Throughout January to June 2026, the national food security programme, a synergy between the government and the Indonesian Armed Forces, has boosted the national economy’s added value. The Army’s assistance covered 6.26 million hectares of rice paddies, yielding approximately 19.2 million tonnes of rice. The Navy supported 2,432 hectares of land with a potential production of 3,676 tonnes of soybeans, while the Air Force assisted 236,048 hectares with a potential output of 18.386 million tonnes of sugarcane. The integrated sugarcane ecosystem at the airbase not only produces sugar but also processes cane into bioethanol, an environmentally friendly fuel, organic fertiliser, and various value-added industrial products, thereby strengthening energy resilience and the national industry.
