President Prabowo leads military funeral for former VP Try Sutrisno
At the podium near the grave, President Prabowo, wearing a black suit complete with a black peci, began the ceremony by receiving a report from the ceremony commander, Infantry Colonel Benny Angga.
The military funeral proceeded with the reading of the late leader’s brief biography, including his military service record and the decorations and honors he received throughout his lifetime.
In addition to domestic awards, Try Sutrisno also received numerous honors from foreign countries.
After the biography reading, Prabowo delivered the final tribute roll call.
“I, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, on behalf of the state, the nation, and the Indonesian National Armed Forces, hereby dedicate to the motherland the life, devotion, and services of the late Try Sutrisno, sixth vice president for the 1993-1998 term,” he said.
He continued, “…and ABRI (Armed Forces of the Republic of Indonesia) commander for the 1988-1993 term, son of the late Subandi, who passed away for the interests and dignity of the nation on Monday, March 2, 2026, at 6:58 a.m. in Jakarta.”
The Red and White flag was unfurled over Try Sutrisno’s grave. The body was then laid to rest, and the family was given the first opportunity to scatter flower petals.
In the next procession, President Prabowo symbolically filled the grave by shoveling a scoop of soil. After the grave was fully covered with earth, a headstone was installed.
After concluding the ceremony, he handed over the Red and White flag and the tribute roll call script to the family.
Try Sutrisno, who served as the sixth vice president during the administration of the second president, Soeharto, passed away at the Army Central Hospital (RSPAD) in Jakarta on Monday morning at the age of 90.
